Are you inspired to try out this idea in your area?

We would love to see boards like this out on the streets all over the UK! We happen to call ourselves Common Ground and we happen to be a group of women, but it’s whatever works for you where you are. We are just sharing the idea here. We want there to be as many constructive, progressive conversations going on as possible.

We can help you

It’s not rocket science but there is stuff we can teach you – like where to site your board, how to frame useful questions that don’t do our opponents’ work for them, how to deal with difficult or aggressive people etc. We’ll probably do it via Zoom.  If you’re not too far away, one of us could come along to help on your first outing.

Board, paper, stickers!

There is a bit of capital outlay…very small! A flipchart stand and paper, loads of coloured stickers, markers, sellotape and a long ruler… and you’re away.

Setting the questions

We work together on questions for the board via a messaging app. Some work better than others and we want to use them to reinforce shared values and not the divisive frames being propagated by the far right. 

We might all want to ask the same things on a particular day or you may want to add questions focused on local issues. 

Sharing results and learning

We are always looking to do things better, and have a forum for sharing and discussing ideas and outcomes. If you’re already doing something similar or related, please get in touch, we’d love to learn from you.
